Erica's Shipping DEAL {International, too!}

Ooh la la. You know I love a great deal....and Erica's Fabrics, too.
It's a fantastic shop!
Should you ever make your way to Indiana, South Bend is where it's at.

Home to a delightful collection of 1930s reproductions (where I spend a great deal of my fabric budget!) and lots of other great stuff....so much I couldn't possibly list it all!
But I don't have to. Ericas.com does it for us.

Just so you know, you'll find their 30s listed under fabrics and in a subcategory called "old fashioned". It took me a while to navigate the site the first time.

Erica's has them {of course!}.

You'll find children's prints, batiks, homespuns and other fabrics, applique & embroidery supplies, kids' craft kits, adorable quilt patterns,
quilting software [including Dear Jane & Dear Hannah] and more.
Fair warning: this site is addictive!! =)

Now for the exciting stuff: Erica's is offering free shipping for US residents and HALF OFF INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING through the 23rd of April!!

I was just telling DH I'd like to take a little road trip to South Bend.
I may have a virtual visit instead.

Many of the 30s reproductions in the collection comes from Erica's.
I also purchase YLI silk thread, great gadgets & books here, too.
They have an amazing amount of inventory and a fantastic staff.

I rarely get to make the trip but when I do it's a real treat
Erica's has also shipped an order or two to the house.

Husqvarna Jade & Some Fabric Stash Goodies

The extension table arrived for my new Husqvarna Jade and I couldn't be more excited. The purchase also included piecing needles & multicolored bobbins. I cannot wait to dig into projects with this lovely machine.

I came across some Judie Rothermel (Oooh, she's my FAVORITE fabric designer ever!) fabrics recently and was thrilled to find some black prints. I haven't used 30s that read black in the Dear Jane yet and think I may have enough to incorporate them a bit in the finished quilt...more on that later.

I'm expecting a package soon of some 30s reproduction fabrics and the waiting is so difficult! Since Erica's in South Bend closed, I haven't been able to find a replacement shop. I've tried, believe me, but nothing is like Erica's. I think I'll have to take a drive on a sunny day out to Shipshewana soon to get some more basic supplies. Fingers crossed Yoders and Lolly's can meet some of my needs in person because online selections are limited.

I hope you're having a beautiful day.

Piece,

Heather

SHIPPING SALE!

Good things come to those who wait....
It's that time of year again: ERICA'S SALE DAYS!

Free US Shipping & 1/2 Price INTERNATIONAL Shipping on orders $75 or more (excluding tax)!!! It's good through 3/25/13, so get your shop on.

To find the 30's reproductions fabrics, be sure to click on the fabrics link at the left side of their first page and go to Old Fashioned. I had a very difficult time finding these my first visit but knew they carried a great selection of 30's prints, having shopped at a vendor site during a local quilt show. Going to the shop is definitely best, but when I can't get over to South Bend, having them online is helpful.

A little plug for my 'local' shop-----it's a wonderful spot. Needle & Thread in Valparaiso, IN has some amazing flannels, GORGEOUS floss, wool, tons of patterns & a nice selection of 30s fabrics as well. It's the perfect spot for gifting civil war reproduction prints and for the material I use for RSVP charity blocks most of the time, too. Friends who love batiks are amazed when they step into the separate room of jewel toned goodness.  Have some themed fabric you're on the hunt for? You'll probably be able to find it here. This is my go-to shop for just about everything. Best of all, the owner & staff have always been FANTASTIC!
If you can't find what you're looking for, just give them a call.

Happy Shopping,
Heather

Favorite Things: Silk Thread

Where oh where do you find your silk thread? I've been purchasing mine at Erica's when I visit South Bend, IN and they do have an online shop but I really enjoy being there. It's divine. Unfortunately, it is not close. I've also purchased spools at quilt shows including the Chicago Show not so long ago---pardon the Seuessian moment.

Local shops are not carrying silk thread and now that I've tried it I don't want to use anything else, hence the Favorite Things title....and the song running through my head as we speak. =)

I asked a YLI rep where I could get the best prices on their amazing silk thread. This wonderful little link to Speed Stitch (YAY!) was provided.

Happy Quilting (or should I say Shopping?!)

SUNNY SATURDAY STASH

Some of the latest additions to the still growing 30s collection, thanks to a recent trip to South Bend.

Erica's is THE place to shop 30s reproductions.

I've been looking at Jane again...
no promises but it's been nice to pick up some supplies for it,
should I get the urge to start putting the top together.
Wishing you a SUNNY SATURDAY &
Happy Piecing,
Heather

A Busy Week

Oh my! Where to begin...
So much has happened this week.
I finished my second corner kite & ordered some goodies from Erica's.
YAY!
DH and I went to a perennial swap at a nearby park and found some goodies for the garden. As they begin to open and flower, I'll be sure to share photos.
I found some cream peonies, a lily that looks Asiatic but I'm told it's a single blooming tall lily {possibly a tiger}. We'll just have to wait and see.
Some purple daylily that I imagine is a lavender shade came home with us and some new daffodils, too.
Another daffodil looking plant with a large bulb came with other bulbs.
I'm told it may be surprise lily.
Whatever comes up will be surprise, that's for sure!
I shared mature Shasta Daisy starts, lots of Siberian Iris, Many Happy Returns Daylilies, dark purple {almost black} Columbine and some
Stella de Oro Daylilies.
There's another swap in fall.
Mr. Fabulous and I can hardly wait.
The weather has not been kind lately to our blooms but I'm happy to see the double daffodils doing well. They're my favorites of all the daffodils. The centers are so full they remind me of carnations.
Fun mail arrived full of selvages & a large floral fabric bundle.
Thank you to the sweet blogger who has been saving selvages for what
looks like quite a while. =)
I've already separated them by color and added them to the selvage stash.
One of these days, they'll make an incredible quilt top.

Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for stopping by.
Heather

Sunshine, Strawberries & 30s Prints

Strawberries galore in the garden! I love this time of year. The strawberry pie is chilling in the fridge, kids have been munching on some fresh, organic berries and I'm taking in some free time.

On the trip to Erica's, I found a few magazines must haves and a beautiful book by Cynthia Tomaszewski called "quilting those FLIRTY '30s". It has some wonderfully whimsical applique flowers, lovely 1930s reproduction prints and a quilt I'm convinced will be perfect made of scraps from Dear Jane. It also has some cookie recipes!

No, you haven't missed any DJ posts, she's still not together. Our schedules have not allowed much time in the sewing room as of late. I have mending projects piled up and plenty keeping me busy.

 Happy Quilting & Gardening,
Heather
